Operation Hadin Kai Rescues 92 Civilians

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, successfully rescued 92 kidnapped civilians and foiled an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) ambush by Boko Haram/Islamic State – West Africa Province terrorists. The operation occurred on May 23, 2026, along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Nigeria — Borno State. Vigilant troops detected terrorists herding civilians and vehicles into bushes, prompting a swift response from the 135 Special Forces Battalion and reinforcement from the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison. The troops engaged the insurgents, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee. All 92 victims, comprising 52 males, 33 females, and 7 children, were rescued, and eight vehicles were recovered. The terrorists attempted to delay the advancing troops by planting three IEDs, but the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team safely detonated them. No casualties were recorded among the Operation Hadin Kai troops. The rescued civilians were provided welfare support and escorted to Damaturu.
