Atiku Urges ADC on 2027 Candidate

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress to present a competent and experienced presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. He emphasized that Nigeria is facing severe economic hardship, insecurity, and institutional decay, requiring a leader capable of governing effectively from day one. Atiku Abubakar cited his own tenure as Vice President from 1999 to 2007, highlighting economic reforms, privatization, fiscal discipline, and debt relief efforts as evidence of his preparedness. He warned against political experimentation and sentiment, stressing that elections are not won on social media enthusiasm alone and that defeating an incumbent government requires strategic planning and national appeal. Atiku Abubakar's statements were issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu. The primary election, where Atiku Abubakar will compete against Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatudeen, is scheduled for May 25, 2026.
