India forms demographic change committee

The government of India>>> has constituted a high-level committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar>>>, to assess demographic changes across India>>>. Union Home Minister Amit Shah>>> announced the committee's formation, emphasizing that 'unnatural' demographic change due to illegal immigration and other factors poses a significant challenge to the nation's sovereignty, national security, law and order, social structure, and tribal societies. The committee, which includes members like former IAS officer Rabi Shankar Mishra>>>, ex-IPS officer Balaji Srivastava>>>, and economist Shamika Ravi>>>, will conduct a comprehensive assessment of these changes, analyze patterns of abnormal population shifts at religious and social community levels, and propose planned, time-bound solutions. This initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi>>>'s Independence Day 2025 announcement of a 'High-powered Demography Mission' to tackle what he described as a 'pre-meditated conspiracy' to change the country's demography through illegal infiltration. The committee will also recommend policy, legislative, and administrative interventions, including mechanisms for identifying, detaining, and deporting illegal immigrants, strengthening border management, and enhancing coordination between central and state governments.
