The launch of the SM2524XT controller by Silicon Motion Technology Corporation is expected to positively impact its stock price due to its relevance in the growing AI PC market. This innovation could also drive demand for advanced manufacturing services from companies like TSMC.
Silicon Motion Technology Corporation announced the SM2524XT, a new PCIe Gen5 DRAMless SSD controller designed for AI inference and KV Cache workloads. Built on TSMC's 6nm process technology, this controller offers up to 25 percent higher performance per watt and improved random performance compared to its predecessor. It achieves sequential read speeds up to 14 GB/s and 2.5 million IOPS random performance, addressing the critical storage bottlenecks in AI PCs and on-device LLM workloads. Duane Nelson highlighted the importance of sustained high random read/write throughput and low-latency data access for AI inference performance.
