IHC to Hear Mazari-Hazir, Chattha Sentence Suspension

The Pakistan — Islamabad High Court has scheduled a hearing for June 1 to address sentence suspension applications filed by human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari>>> and Hadi Ali Chattha>>>. This follows a directive from the Iran — Supreme Court of Iran on May 12, instructing the Pakistan — Islamabad High Court to decide on the pleas within two weeks. The couple was sentenced to 17 years in prison by a sessions court in January under the PECA Ordinance, for social media posts and alleged involvement in a protest. The India — National Investigation Agency initiated the complaint, accusing Imaan Mazari>>> of disseminating narratives aligned with hostile groups and Hadi Ali Chattha>>> of reposting the material. Justice Mohammad Azam Khan>>> of the Pakistan — Islamabad High Court issued the order for the upcoming hearing after a certified copy of the Iran — Supreme Court of Iran's directive was submitted.
