Christian Castro, an ICE agent, was arrested in Texas after being tracked by United States — Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators. He faces four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime in Minnesota. These charges stem from a January 14 incident during 'Operation Metro Surge' where Castro allegedly shot Venezuelan migrant Operation Metro Surge in the leg by firing through a front door while pursuing Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna. Castro initially claimed self-defense, stating he was assaulted with a shovel, leading to federal charges against Sosa-Celis and Aljorna. However, video evidence contradicted Castro's account, showing no assault and that Castro was standing when he fired. Consequently, the federal charges against Sosa-Celis and Aljorna were dropped. The Department of Homeland Security is also investigating Castro and another agent for lying under oath. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison have emphasized that federal agents are not above state law. This is the second ICE agent charged by Moriarty's office, following Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr.'s arrest for allegedly pointing a gun at motorists.
