India's AI Adoption and Workforce Confidence

A recent survey by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants reveals that India's workforce is rapidly adopting AI in both work and hiring processes, with a significant portion of professionals expressing confidence in AI-led recruitment. Over half of India respondents (52%) are confident in AI's ability to support fair hiring, surpassing the global average. The use of AI at work is widespread, with 57% of respondents confirming its use in their current roles, and 86% confident in their ability to learn AI-related skills. However, anxieties persist, with job displacement being a primary concern for Indian respondents, and many finance professionals feeling overwhelmed by the pace of technological change. Experts like Sowmya Narayan emphasize the crucial role of human ownership and intervention to prevent algorithmic biases, especially given AI's reliance on historical data. Employers acknowledge AI's utility in screening large applicant pools but caution against over-reliance, stressing the need for human involvement to avoid missing out on qualified candidates. The report suggests that AI will fundamentally reshape the nature of work, necessitating upskilling for employees and role redesign by employers to focus on high-value contributions.
