The extension of trading hours by the National Stock Exchange of India is expected to reduce end-of-day pricing uncertainty and allow traders more time to manage positions, potentially leading to more efficient price discovery. This change directly impacts market participants in India's equity derivatives segment.
The National Stock Exchange of India has announced an extension of trading hours for equity derivatives, including futures and options (F&O), by 10 minutes, effective August 3, 2026. The new closing time will be 3:40 pm, extended from the current 3:30 pm. This change is aimed at aligning derivatives trading with the newly introduced Closing Auction Session (CAS) in the equity cash segment, which runs from 3:15 pm to 3:35 pm. The extension provides F&O traders an additional 10 minutes to hedge, adjust, or unwind positions based on evolving price discovery in the underlying securities. The volume-weighted average price (VWAP) window for derivatives close price computation will also shift to 3:10 pm-3:40 pm. The National Stock Exchange of India will broadcast alerts to members at the commencement of the Closing Auction Session, informing them of revised operating price ranges for stock futures and potential cancellation of outstanding orders outside the new range.
