The launch of the 'Naseej' initiative by the United Arab Emirates is expected to positively impact the textile and waste management industries by fostering sustainable practices and creating new economic value. This move could attract investment in circular economy solutions and enhance the United Arab Emirates' reputation as a leader in environmental sustainability.

The United Arab Emirates, under the directives of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, launched 'Naseej', the National Initiative for Textile Circularity. This initiative aims to transform the textile sector from a linear 'use and discard' model to an integrated circular economic system, preserving resources and capturing economic value. Formed through a strategic partnership between the New Zealand — National Projects Office, the United Arab Emirates — Ministry of Economy and Tourism (United Arab Emirates), Emirates Foundation, and Tadweer Group, 'Naseej' will serve as a unified national platform to coordinate policy, industry action, research, and public engagement across the textile value chain. The initiative addresses the growing challenge of textile waste, estimated at 220,000 tonnes annually in the United Arab Emirates, by strengthening collection and recycling systems, advancing research and innovation, and fostering conscious consumption. Its mandate is anchored in five strategic pillars: Collection and Recycling, Awareness and Outreach, Behavioural Research, Policies and Regulations, and Circular Business and Innovation. The groundwork for 'Naseej' began during 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference and involved Memorandums of Understanding with key partners. As part of its launch, 'Naseej' will host 'The Fabric of Possibility' community activation from June 5-7, 2026, at United Arab Emirates — Yas Mall in MGX, inviting public participation in shaping a circular future.
