Fugro wins EirGrid offshore wind contract

Fugro has secured a two-year environmental services contract with Republic of Ireland — EirGrid, Republic of Ireland's state-owned electricity transmission operator. This contract involves long-term marine mammal monitoring along Republic of Ireland's south coast, supporting Republic of Ireland — EirGrid's Powering Up Offshore - South Coast programme. The programme aims to develop electricity infrastructure to connect future offshore wind farms to the national grid, with an expected capacity of 900 MW of renewable electricity. Fugro will deploy and maintain a network of eight static seabed moorings equipped with underwater acoustic sensors to detect and record cetacean activity. This project marks the first commercial deployment of Fugro's purpose-built mooring system and builds on an existing seven-year framework agreement between Fugro and Republic of Ireland — EirGrid. The data collected will establish an environmental baseline, track changes in marine mammal activity, and support environmental assessments and regulatory engagement for offshore development.
