PPG publishes marine coating white paper

PPG Industries has published a white paper titled 'Electrostatic Application of Marine Hull Coatings', introducing an advanced technology that improves efficiency and reduces environmental impact in the shipping industry. This method negatively charges paint particles, attracting them to a grounded substrate, which enhances transfer efficiency and reduces overspray by up to 40%, as demonstrated by EDR Antwerp Shipyard. The technology, already proven in automotive and aerospace, is adapted for marine vessels, offering reduced waste and Scope 3 carbon lifecycle savings. It also contributes to lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by creating smoother hull coatings like PPG Sigmaglide 2390, which reduces hydrodynamic resistance. PPG Industries will showcase this 360-degree approach to marine coatings at the Posidonia, aligning with International — International Maritime Organization's decarbonization goals.
