This large-scale anti-scam operation, led by Meta Platforms and involving major tech companies and law enforcement, is expected to have a positive impact on the technology and financial sectors by reducing fraud and enhancing user trust. The freezing of cryptocurrency assets by Coinbase also highlights increased regulatory scrutiny and efforts to combat illicit activities within the crypto market, potentially leading to greater stability and legitimacy for the asset class.
Meta Platforms, in collaboration with the United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States — United States Department of Justice, Microsoft, Coinbase, and SpaceX — Starlink, announced a major anti-scam operation. This initiative, Meta Platforms' largest to date, resulted in 63 arrests by the Thailand — Royal Thai Police, the freezing of over $3 million in cryptocurrency by Coinbase, and the removal of approximately 1.4 million scam-related accounts from Facebook and Instagram. Microsoft disabled 20,000 accounts, and SpaceX — Starlink disrupted thousands of internet terminals. The operation targeted criminal networks operating from forced-labor compounds in Southeast Asia, which steal billions from Americans annually through romance and cryptocurrency investment fraud. The effort spanned Washington, D.C., and Thailand, involving law enforcement agencies from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. This marks the third joint operation with the United States — United States Department of Justice's Scam Center Strike Force since December 2025, demonstrating a growing scale of disruption against these transnational organized crime groups.
