Somalia Mogadishu Political Clashes Erupt

Armed clashes erupted in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, between supporters of opposition political figures and state security forces ahead of a planned anti-government demonstration. The violence, which included heavy gunfire and explosions, prompted calls for restraint from the United Nations and the United States. Opposition leaders, including former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of constitutional violations and deploying state forces against political opponents.
