Argungu Emir Urges Self-Defense

The Emir of Argungu, Muhammad Samaila Mera, has urged communities within the Argungu Emirate, Nigeria — Kebbi State, to legally acquire weapons for self-defense against persistent bandit attacks. During a meeting with local leaders, Muhammad Samaila Mera emphasized that communities should not remain passive in the face of violence, kidnappings, and killings. He advised residents to pool resources to purchase legally approved firearms, believing that visible self-defense capabilities could deter criminals. Muhammad Samaila Mera clarified that his call is for lawful self-defense, not vigilantism or ethnic violence, and warned against revenge attacks. He also noted that armed bandits linked to the Lakulisha group continue to terrorize communities, despite some members reportedly leaving the area. The Emir stressed the need for vigilance and cooperation with security agencies, acknowledging that security forces alone cannot handle the overwhelming challenge.
