Ontario Dementia Task Force Launched

The Alzheimer Society of Ontario and the Brainwell Institute have launched the Ontario Dementia Task Force, a new policy initiative aimed at transforming dementia care coordination in Canada — Ontario. Funded by the Weston Family Foundation, the Task Force will engage various stakeholders, including policymakers and individuals with lived experience, to co-design evidence-based recommendations. These recommendations will focus on integrating and coordinating dementia care services across the province, addressing current gaps, and learning from other major coordination models. The initiative complements the work already underway by the government to develop a provincial framework through the Improving Dementia Care in Ontario Act. Key figures like Lisa Levin of AdvantAge Ontario and Dr. Jo-Anne Clarke of the North East Specialized Geriatric Centre are co-chairing the Task Force, highlighting the urgency as over 432,000 people in Canada — Ontario are forecast to be living with dementia by 2030.
