New Relic launches AI Coding Observability

New Relic, the Intelligent Observability Company, announced the development of New Relic AI Coding Observability, a new open-source feature designed for AI-assisted software development. This solution aims to provide unified cost, security, and performance insights across various AI coding tools like Claude (language model), Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurfing, and Amazon (company). The feature addresses the operational gaps created by the rapid adoption of AI coding assistants, which often operate outside traditional observability stacks. Key benefits include gaining insights into code development actions, exercising cost control over AI coding tools, enhancing productivity metrics, ensuring security and compliance through local-only mode, and providing strong code transparency. The solution is built on Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Model Context Protocol to ensure vendor-neutrality. Brian Emerson, Chief Product Officer at New Relic, emphasized the importance of real-time oversight for managing risks associated with scaling AI output. New Relic AI Coding Observability will be available as an open-source feature on June 23 at no additional cost, with standard New Relic ingest rates applying.
