Ohanaeze Ndigbo bans Igbo titles in Edo

The Nigeria — Edo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Worldwide has banned the use of unauthorized Igbo traditional titles such as Ezeigbo, Ezendigbo, and Igwe outside recognized traditional institutions in Igboland. This directive, announced by Emmanuel Ojor and supported by legal adviser George Igbokwe, follows a resolution from the organization's General Assembly on April 9, 2026. The ban aims to preserve cultural order, prevent inter-communal tensions, and is consistent with a prior court ruling. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide reaffirmed its loyalty to Nigeria — Edo State's traditional authority, including the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II. The organization also launched a statewide civic mobilization campaign to boost participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise conducted by the Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission, urging all eligible Igbo residents to register.
