A groundbreaking study published in Radiology by the Radiological Society of North America reveals that three commercially available Artificial intelligence systems can detect early signs of Breast cancer up to six years before a clinical diagnosis. Led by Fredrik Strand of Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, the retrospective study analyzed over 88,000 mammograms from 31,394 patients over a decade. The AI-CAD systems achieved 90% specificity, identifying potential cancers in nearly 20% of individuals six years prior to diagnosis, 25% four years prior, and 40% two years prior. This advancement promises to revolutionize Breast cancer screening by enabling earlier intervention and personalized surveillance, potentially reducing false-positive rates and improving survival rates.
