Northern Elders Demand Nigeria Security Emergency

The Northern Elders Forum>>> (NEF) has urgently called on President Bola Tinubu>>> and the Nigeria>>> to declare a national security emergency due to the relentless collapse of security across Nigeria>>>. The NEF, through its spokesperson Abubakar Jiddere>>>, highlighted that the country is 'bleeding' from widespread violence, kidnappings-for-ransom, and bandit attacks, which have evolved into a sophisticated criminal economy. This crisis is crippling agriculture, displacing farmers, collapsing rural economies, disrupting education, and deepening poverty. The forum criticized the government's inadequate security presence, delayed interventions, and limited prosecution of criminals, warning that public confidence is rapidly eroding. They also demanded comprehensive investigations into illegal mining and other resource exploitation linked to insecurity. The NEF stressed that this is a national emergency requiring immediate and measurable action, not just assurances, to protect lives and property.
