The expansion of 24/7 trading for West Texas Intermediate crude oil and Gold contracts by CME Group is expected to increase liquidity and accessibility in these commodity markets. This move could lead to more efficient price discovery and better risk management opportunities for traders, potentially boosting trading volumes for CME Group.
CME Group, a leading derivatives marketplace, announced plans to expand 24/7 trading for new, smaller-sized crude oil and gold contracts, pending regulatory review. A new 10-Barrel West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract, one-tenth the size of existing Micro WTI futures, will launch on August 30. Additionally, 24/7 trading for CME Group's existing 1-Ounce Gold futures will commence on July 26. Derek Sammann, CME Group's Senior Managing Director, stated that these offerings aim to help traders diversify portfolios and manage exposure amidst geopolitical uncertainty. The 10-Barrel West Texas Intermediate contract will be cash-settled and listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, while the 1-Ounce Gold contract will be cash-settled and listed on Comex.
