The REA, supported by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, has commissioned major solar hybrid mini-grid projects in Nigeria — Kogi State, providing 2.5MW of clean energy to over 5,000 households. Nationwide, over 1,000 mini-grids are under development, with 48 interconnected mini-grids set to add 288MW of capacity. International partnerships with the European Union and a Korean energy project are also contributing to the deployment of advanced grid technologies. The Rural Electrification Fund (REF) is advancing over 50 last-mile mini-grids, and a collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has established 23 specialized mini-grids to support agricultural supply chains. Nigeria is also positioning itself as a renewable energy manufacturing hub, with 3.7 GW of capacity in development and locally manufactured solar panels being exported.
