Abdulsalami Abubakar Memoir on Moshood Abiola

Former Head of State Abubakar Malami has released his autobiography, 'Call of Duty', in which he firmly rejects claims that Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, was poisoned in detention. Abubakar asserts that an international autopsy, conducted by pathologists from four countries, concluded Abiola died from natural causes due to pre-existing medical conditions like hypertension and a heart ailment. He recounts that Abiola collapsed during a meeting with a United States delegation, including Thomas R. Pickering and Susan Rice, on July 7, 1998. The book launch, held in Abuja to mark Abubakar's 84th birthday, was attended by representatives of President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who confirmed that efforts to secure Abiola's release were nearing completion before his sudden death. This revelation aims to provide a detailed insider narrative on the controversial death that has fueled suspicions for nearly three decades.
