India Committee Studies Demographic Shifts

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed a high-level committee on demographic change, formed by the India — Ministry of External Affairs, to study population shifts in India's border districts, metropolitan cities, and industrial towns. The committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar and including members like Rabi Shankar Mishra, Balaji Srivastava, Shamika Ravi, and the India — Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, will assess changes due to illegal immigration and other unnatural causes. The initiative, initially announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to analyze abnormal population shifts among religious and social groups, identify underlying factors, and recommend policy, legislative, and administrative interventions, including mechanisms for the identification, detention, and deportation of illegal immigrants. Amit Shah emphasized the issue's importance for national security, sovereignty, law and order, social stability, and the preservation of tribal communities.
