UAE Establishes AI and Data Authority

The United Arab Emirates, led by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved the establishment of the Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data. This new federal body, reporting directly to the United Arab Emirates and led by Omar Al Olama, aims to unify national efforts in data, artificial intelligence, and digital government. It will consolidate functions previously held by the United Arab Emirates — Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, the Digital Government Sector at the United Arab Emirates — Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, and the United Arab Emirates — UAE Data Office. The authority's responsibilities include proposing national policies, legislation, and strategies, managing government data platforms, and leading the national AI strategy to increase its contribution to the country's GDP. This initiative is part of the United Arab Emirates' commitment to developing a more efficient, agile, and proactive government model.
