INS Sharda strengthens India-Sri Lanka-Maldives ties

The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sharda concluded a successful port call in Colombo, Sri Lanka, strengthening maritime cooperation and friendship between India and Sri Lanka. The visit included professional, training, and sporting engagements with the Sri Lanka, focusing on capacity-building initiatives such as small arms handling, basic firefighting, first aid, and rescue procedures. Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara, Commander Western Naval Area, Sri Lanka, visited the ship, and the Commanding Officer of INS Sharda paid a courtesy call on Shri Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka. Following this, INS Sharda arrived at Maafilaafushi Atoll in the Maldives for a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise planned from May 4-10, 2025. This deployment aims to enhance interoperability between the India — Indian Navy and the Maldives — Maldives National Defence Force, focusing on disaster response coordination, search and rescue operations, medical assistance, and joint drills. Both engagements align with India's MAHASAGAR vision for regional security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
