Nigeria NNPC Nepotism Allegations

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of securing a 'juicy position' for his daughter at the NNPC Limited (NNPC) without following due process. Oshiomhole claims that former NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari facilitated this appointment. He further alleged widespread nepotism within the NNPC Limited (NNPC), stating that both past and present officials have turned top-level positions into a 'family business' by employing relatives. While Oshiomhole clarified that employing relatives is not inherently wrong if due process is followed, he emphasized that the alleged appointment of Godswill Akpabio's daughter bypassed normal recruitment procedures. Godswill Akpabio's spokesperson has denied these allegations, stating that none of his children work at the NNPC Limited (NNPC) or its subsidiaries. These claims come amidst an ongoing Senate probe into alleged financial discrepancies within the NNPC Limited (NNPC) from 2017 to 2023.
