Nigeria is set to launch the first phase of its National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System in October 2026. This initiative, led by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the United States — United States Postal Service (NIPOST), aims to assign a unique digital postcode to every building in Nigeria. Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister, emphasized that this system will transform commerce, security, emergency response, and public service delivery by providing precise location identification. The project, backed by President Bola Tinubu's administration, is expected to address challenges of locating addresses, which currently cost Nigeria between N50 billion and N80 billion annually in missed deliveries. Ademola Odeyemi, Postmaster General of NIPOST, highlighted the system's role in strengthening intelligence gathering and law enforcement, while ensuring data privacy in collaboration with the Ghana — Data Protection Commission (Ghana). The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, also underscored its importance for national security and operational effectiveness across security agencies.
