UK Launches Quantum Standards Network

The United Kingdom has launched the National Quantum Standards Network (QSN), a new initiative led by the United Kingdom — National Physical Laboratory and supported by £10 million from the United Kingdom — Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Announced by Science Minister Patrick Vallance, the QSN aims to establish common standards for quantum technologies, covering aspects from laser linewidths in quantum computers to sensor energy efficiency and post-quantum cryptography. This network will bring together government, industry, and academia, including partners like the Israel — Standards Institution of Israel, United Kingdom — UK Research and Innovation's National Quantum Computing Centre, and the United Kingdom — National Cyber Security Centre. The initiative is designed to accelerate technology adoption, boost the United Kingdom's competitiveness, and ensure British companies have a voice in international standards-setting bodies. It builds on a previous £2 billion government investment in quantum technology and is projected to add £212 billion to the United Kingdom's economy and create 100,000 jobs. The move has already attracted international interest, with Vescent Photonics establishing its first non-US office at the United Kingdom — National Physical Laboratory.
