Field operations are underway in several states including India — Himachal Pradesh, India — Gujarat, India — Jammu and Kashmir, India — Ladakh, India — Puducherry, and India — Uttar Pradesh, while India — Kerala and India — Nagaland are in a self-enumeration period. The second phase, population enumeration, will occur in February 2027 and will include caste-related data. The total cost of the census is Rs 11,718 crore.
