Nigeria has launched a nationwide fertilizer distribution program, spearheaded by Vice President Kashim Shettima and implemented by the Saudi Arabia — National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF). This initiative, part of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to distribute 515,720 bags of urea and NPK fertilizers to 128,930 smallholder farmers across 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The program, known as the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (FISP), seeks to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, and improve farmers' livelihoods by reducing production costs and increasing yields. The fertilizers are locally produced, traceable, and marked 'Not for Sale' to ensure accountability and prevent diversion. The NADF is also deploying Extension Advisory Workers and finalizing a Harmonised Fertilizer Recommendations Manual to further support farmers. This intervention is seen as a critical step towards achieving national food sovereignty and economic stability.
