The launch of Robotaxi services by WeRide and Uber in ETH Zurich is expected to positively impact the autonomous driving and ride-hailing markets. It signifies a significant step in the commercialization and global adoption of autonomous mobility, potentially increasing investor confidence in both companies and the broader autonomous vehicle industry.
WeRide, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, and Uber, Inc. have announced plans to launch commercial Robotaxi services in the Greater ETH Zurich Region, Switzerland, later this year. This marks their second joint deployment in Europe, following a recent announcement for Spain — Madrid. The services will be available via the Uber app, subject to regulatory approval from Switzerland's Switzerland — Federal Roads Office (Switzerland) (FEDRO), which granted WeRide a driverless permit in November 2025. Rydera, a local mobility and logistics operator, will manage fleet operations in ETH Zurich. This expansion builds on their existing Robotaxi operations in the Middle East, including fully driverless services in MGX and United Arab Emirates — Dubai, and public operations in Riyadh Air, demonstrating a tested blueprint for European growth. The partnership aims to deploy tens of thousands of Robotaxis globally, accelerating the adoption of safe and reliable autonomous mobility.
