The financial close of the Pestera II wind project by Antin Infrastructure Partners is expected to positively impact the renewable energy sector in Romania, attracting further institutional capital due to a bankable regulatory framework. This will enhance Romania's energy security and affordability, potentially leading to increased investment opportunities in the region. The involved banks and contractors will see a boost in their project portfolios and revenue.
Antin Infrastructure Partners, through its Growth Markets Fund II, has achieved financial close for the 392 MW Pestera II onshore wind project in Constanța County, Romania. This project, one of the largest renewable energy financings in Central and Eastern Europe, secured approximately EUR 510 million from a consortium of seven local and international banks including Erste Bank, Banca Comerciala Romana, Deutsche Bank, Société Générale, BRD, Eurobank Cyprus, and Piraeus Bank. Equity is also provided by the European Investment Bank and a Danish pension fund. The project, which secured a 15-year contract for difference for 245 MW in December 2024, is expected to begin commercial operations in 2028. Nordex will supply the turbines, and Electrogrup will be the balance of plant contractor. This initiative is crucial for enhancing Romania's energy security and affordability.
