A delegation from Türkiye's Turkey — Presidency of Migration Management, led by Hunkar Burkan Ibin, visited the Nigeria — Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Abuja to reaffirm this commitment. Both nations are discussing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the process, involving Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant institutions like the Sudan — National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and the Nigeria — Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Türkiye's National Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (NAVRR) Mechanism offers support to migrants wishing to return. While acknowledging some Nigerians' involvement in crimes, Türkiye emphasized the low figures and its aim to promote orderly migration and expand legal pathways. Abike Dabiri, Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, pledged full cooperation, stressing awareness campaigns for undocumented Nigerians to utilize the program and reiterating Nigeria's commitment to discouraging irregular migration.
