Singapore migrant worker abandonment

Over 400 migrant workers, primarily from India and Bangladesh, were allegedly abandoned by three Singaporean firms: SK Industries, KPA Engineering, and E&R Engineering. The common director of these firms, Ramu Palani Velu, is believed to have fled Singapore without paying the workers for three to four months. In response, the National Trades Union Congress and Migrant Workers Centre have launched a job placement initiative, securing nearly 400 vacancies from over 80 companies. They have also provided financial assistance of SGD 100 in cash and SGD 100 in supermarket vouchers to the affected workers and are relocating them to a single lodging facility. The Tripartite_Alliance_for_Dispute_Management, a joint effort by the Singapore — Ministry of Manpower, National Trades Union Congress, and Singapore National Employers Federation, is assisting workers in filing their salary claims.
