US-Iran Direct Deconfliction Channel

The United States and Iran have agreed to establish a direct deconfliction channel, with military representatives from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the US Army's United States — United States Central Command (CENTCOM) to be stationed in Qatar — Doha, Qatar. This agreement, confirmed by US Vice President JD Vance, aims to reduce the risk of conflict escalation between the two nations. The development follows recent technical talks and is part of broader diplomatic efforts. Concurrently, the United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed their strategic partnership at a ministerial meeting in Bahrain, co-chaired by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They welcomed a June 17 memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the United States and Iran, acknowledging mediation by Pakistan and Qatar. The parties emphasized the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and address its regional threats, including ballistic missiles and drones. They also stressed the importance of free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and clarified that any future trade and investment with Iran would be conditional on its compliance with the MOU and an end to destabilizing activities. The United Arab Emirates is also engaging in discussions with Iran and the IRGC regarding economic incentives.
