The Nigerian government's extensive support for MSMEs, including significant financial disbursements and infrastructure development, is expected to stimulate economic growth and job creation. This positive sentiment could attract further investment into Nigeria's small business sector, potentially boosting the overall economy.
The 8th National MSME Awards in Abuja highlighted the Nigerian government's commitment to fostering an enterprise-led economy. Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) account for 90% of businesses and over 60 million jobs in Nigeria. The Bola Tinubu administration's Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on decentralizing economic opportunities through targeted infrastructure projects, business-support grants, and economic reforms. Key initiatives include the Expanded National MSME Clinics, 21 state-of-the-art Shared Infrastructure Facilities that created 650,000 jobs, and significant financial access through the New Development Bank (₦874 billion disbursed) and the United States — Export–Import Bank of the United States (₦394.88 billion for export-oriented enterprises). The government also launched a ₦75 billion MSME Intervention Fund and a ₦50 billion Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme. The awards, themed 'Renewed Hope Edition', shifted from physical prizes to liquid capital for winners, with Olanrewaju Foods & Farms Ltd winning the overall MSME of the Year.
