India launches AI Rural Audit Portal

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the AI-enabled Rural Internal Audit Portal on June 28, 2026, during the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan in New Delhi. Developed by the India — Ministry of Rural Development in collaboration with the India — National Informatics Centre and conceived by the India — Office of the Chief Controller of Accounts, this digital platform aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and technology-driven governance in rural development programs across India. The portal modernizes traditional audit practices by integrating audit planning, execution, reporting, compliance management, monitoring, and analytics into a single digital ecosystem. A pilot project was successfully implemented in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh starting April 1, 2025, leading to a gradual expansion and full operationalization of core modules by October 2025. This initiative is a significant step towards digitizing and simplifying internal audit processes, creating a central repository of audit records, enabling risk-based audit planning, and automating report generation, ultimately improving oversight and evidence-based decision-making.
