The United Arab Emirates has launched its first genomics-driven clinical trial aimed at preventing Alzheimer s disease before symptoms appear. The study, led by EITC's Insights Research Organisation and Solutions (IROS) in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates — Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and US biotechnology company Halia Therapeutics, utilizes data from the Emirati Genome Program to identify individuals carrying the APOE4 gene variant, a major genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer s disease. The trial will evaluate HT-4253, an investigational therapy developed by Halia Therapeutics, in asymptomatic individuals.
