Masdar, an Abu Dhabi-based clean energy company, has broken ground on a 1 GW wind farm in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region. This $1.4 billion project, co-developed with JA Solar Holdings, Qazaq Green Power, and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund, includes a 600 MWh battery energy storage system to enhance grid stability. It is Masdar's first renewable energy project in Kazakhstan and one of Central Asia's largest integrated wind and battery storage developments. The project is expected to power 880,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 2.5 million tonnes annually. In parallel, Masdar signed a roadmap agreement with Kazakhstan's United Arab Emirates — Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development to advance the country's first round-the-clock clean energy project, aiming to provide 24/7 renewable power for data centers and AI infrastructure. These initiatives support Kazakhstan's goals of generating 15% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and 50% by 2050, while also contributing to Masdar's target of reaching 100 GW of global clean energy capacity by 2030.
