ASUU threatens strike in Edo, Ondo, Delta

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Benin Zone, has threatened an indefinite strike in seven state-owned universities across Edo, Delta, and Ondo states if the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement is not implemented by July 2026. Prof. Monday Igbafen, the Zonal Coordinator, stated that the union has exhausted all engagement avenues with the governors of the affected states. While federal universities and ten other state-owned universities have implemented the agreement, including arrears payment, institutions like Ambrose Alli University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Delta State University, Delta State University, Dennis Osadebay University, and Texas Southern University have not. ASUU demands that July salaries reflect the Consequential Adjustment of Total Consolidated Academic Allowance and other entitlements, with arrears from January 2026 paid in full. The union describes the non-implementation as provocative and unjust, accusing the state governments of failing to provide financial backing.
