Djibril Tobe Appointed Airtel Kenya MD

Bharti Airtel — Airtel Kenya has announced a significant leadership change, appointing Djibril Tobe as its new Managing Director, effective July 1, 2026. He succeeds Harsh Malhotra, who has been elevated to the role of Chief Executive Officer for Indus Towers Africa. Djibril Tobe brings over two decades of experience in telecommunications, FMCG, and consulting across various African markets, having previously served as MD of Bharti Airtel — Airtel Congo B, Bharti Airtel, and Commercial Director at Burkina Faso, among other roles. Harsh Malhotra's four-year tenure at Bharti Airtel — Airtel Kenya saw substantial growth, including the rollout of over 2,000 network sites, doubling revenues, expanding the subscriber base from 16 million to over 24 million, and increasing Airtel Money's market share from 2% to 11%. He also spearheaded the introduction of 5G connectivity, eSIM technology, and fiber internet solutions.
