The acquisition by SummitIG of Dark Fiber and Infrastructure is expected to positively impact the digital infrastructure market by increasing network density and route diversity in Virginia and Maryland. This expansion will support the growing demand for cloud computing and AI workloads, benefiting hyperscalers, carriers, and large enterprises by providing greater flexibility and capacity.
SummitIG, a leading dark fiber provider, has completed the acquisition of Dark Fiber and Infrastructure (DF&I) from funds managed by Blue Owl Capital. This strategic move significantly expands SummitIG's network footprint by integrating nearly 200 miles of DF&I's conduit and dark fiber assets, complementing SummitIG's existing 1,100 miles in Virginia and extending its reach into Maryland, including Baltimore. The acquisition aims to enhance network density, route diversity, and capacity, particularly to support the increasing demands of cloud and AI workloads for hyperscalers, carriers, and large enterprises. SDC Capital Partners, the majority owner of SummitIG, supports this expansion. Blue Owl Capital, which previously grew DF&I's network sixfold over six years, has successfully divested its investment. Legal and financial advisors for the transaction included Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom for SummitIG, and Jane Street Group and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld for DF&I.
