SeAH Besteel has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first company in South Korea to secure proprietary manufacturing technologies for two core hydrogen infrastructure materials: 100-bar class high-pressure seamless pipe material for hydrogen transport and hydrogen storage alloy materials for non-mechanical compressors. This breakthrough, developed through joint R&D projects with the Korea Planning & Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology and the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, provides a robust, independent alternative to conventional supply chains. The new pipe material maximizes hydrogen embrittlement resistance for safe, large-scale gaseous hydrogen transport, while the hydrogen storage alloy reduces the high costs associated with mechanical compressors at refueling stations. SeAH Besteel plans for full-scale commercialization after demo-plant verifications, aiming to accelerate the deployment of high-pressure pipeline networks and stabilize the broader hydrogen supply chain, thereby driving the expansion of the global hydrogen ecosystem.
