London Retail Crime Action Plan

Senior representatives from the United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police, the United Kingdom — Mayor s Office for Policing and Crime, and major UK retailers, including Sainsbury s, IKEA, Tesco, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis Partnership, and Next plc, have agreed on a new action plan to strengthen the response to retail crime across London. The plan, following a roundtable at New Scotland Yard, focuses on improving intelligence sharing, prioritizing retail crime investigations, and strengthening collaboration throughout the criminal justice process. The United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police will prioritize violent incidents and cases with detained suspects, improve communication with retailers, and target prolific offenders and organized crime groups. Retailers, represented by the British Retail Consortium, have pledged to provide better-quality evidence, appoint dedicated police contacts, and support employees through prosecutions. This initiative comes amid a reported 50 percent increase in arrests for retail crime by the United Kingdom — Metropolitan Police in 2025/26 and a 123 percent rise in positive case outcomes.
