Opera Launches Paste Protect

Opera has launched a new security feature called Paste Protect, designed to block ClickFix-style cyberattacks. This feature, rolling out across its desktop browsers on Windows, macOS, and Linux, is enabled by default and monitors copied content for suspicious command patterns. If a dangerous command is detected, Opera blocks the copy action, displays a warning, and flags the webpage. The company claims to be the first major browser to offer native protection against ClickFix attacks, which rely on social engineering to trick users into pasting malicious commands. Research from Huntress (company) indicates that ClickFix attacks accounted for over 53% of malware-loading attacks in 2025. Paste Protect also expands Opera's existing clipboard hijacking protection, preventing external applications from secretly replacing copied content like cryptocurrency wallet addresses. This move by Opera aims to protect users from malware installation, password theft, and remote device access, addressing a growing cybersecurity threat highlighted by cases like Lumma Stealer.
