The successful proof of concept by Nuvei and Visa Inc. for agentic commerce is expected to positively impact the financial technology and e-commerce sectors. It signals a significant step towards AI-driven purchasing, potentially increasing transaction volumes and creating new revenue streams for companies like Nuvei and Visa Inc. that are at the forefront of this innovation.
Nuvei, a global fintech company, successfully completed a live agentic-commerce proof of concept with Visa Inc., Arvato Systems, and fashion brand Kings and Priests. This groundbreaking transaction involved a merchant's AI agent initiating a product purchase and completing the payment within the agent, without transferring to a separate payment flow. Multiple European issuers, including Alpha Bank, Piraeus Bank, Bank Leumi, Cal, Max, and Bank of Cyprus, participated, with payments settled on live Visa Inc. rails using tokenized Visa Inc. credentials within Visa Inc. Intelligent Commerce. This proof of concept establishes Nuvei Agentic as a protocol-agnostic execution layer for AI agents to make payments and reflects a merchant-led strategy for first-party agentic capabilities. Nuvei plans initial availability in the second half of 2026, aiming to build the infrastructure for agentic commerce, which is projected to drive trillions in global transaction volume by 2035.
