The trial of Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria, continues with new revelations regarding an alleged $6.2 million fraudulent withdrawal. Witnesses from the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and special investigator Jim Obazee have testified, implicating former President Muhammadu Buhari and former SGF Boss Mustapha. Obazee has called for their prosecution, citing a letter purportedly signed by Buhari authorizing the withdrawal and a follow-up from Mustapha's office. However, Mustapha denies signing the documents, claiming forgery. While no evidence has linked Emefiele directly to benefiting from the funds, the withdrawal pushed the CBN's special dollar account into a negative balance, highlighting significant internal control failures. Jibril Abubakar, who collected the funds, and Bashirudeen Maishanu, a CBN staff who confessed and refunded part of the money, are also implicated. The trial has been adjourned to October 20 for further proceedings.
