The Indian benchmark indices, S&P BSE Sensex and NIFTY 50, rallied significantly due to weaker US labor data, which increased expectations of a dovish United States — Federal Reserve policy, and easing Petroleum prices. This positive sentiment led to gains across various sectors in India, particularly IT, Metal, and MidSmall IT & Telecom, while also boosting Gold prices.
Indian benchmark indices, including the S&P BSE Sensex and NIFTY 50, opened Friday's trade on a strong note, with the S&P BSE Sensex gaining over 500 points and the NIFTY 50 crossing the 24,300 mark. This rally was primarily driven by weaker-than-expected US labor market data, which reported only 57,000 new jobs last month, significantly below the 100,000 forecast. This data strengthened expectations that the United States — Federal Reserve would adopt a more accommodative monetary policy. Additionally, easing Petroleum prices, trading around USD 71-72 per barrel, provided further support to investor sentiment, especially for India, a major crude importer. Banking and market expert Ajay Banga highlighted these factors as key drivers. Sectorally, Nifty IT, Nifty Metal, and Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom saw significant gains. Gold prices also climbed over 1 percent, reflecting the shift in monetary tightening expectations.
