FCTA Impounds Vehicles for Terminal Relocation

The Nigeria — Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria) (FCTA) has intensified its enforcement efforts in Abuja, impounding 40 commercial vehicles for operating outside the newly inaugurated Nigeria — Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal. This action follows a directive issued on June 21 by the FCT Transport Secretariat, requiring all commercial transport operators from illegal roadside parks in Utako and Banex areas to relocate to the Nigeria — Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminal by June 24. Dr. Peter Olumuji, Secretary of the Command and Control Centre, FCTA Security Services Department, stated that the enforcement aims to ensure full compliance, improve safety, orderliness, and security within the territory's transport system. Owners of impounded vehicles will face prosecution, and individuals obstructing the exercise have been arrested. Planet Projects, the firm managing the terminal, reported that operations officially commenced on July 1, processing approximately 800 passengers and 130 vehicles within the first few days. The terminal is designed to accommodate about 250 vehicles and offers facilities comparable to modern airports, with a focus on passenger safety and operator registration.
