India has achieved a significant milestone in its 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative by unveiling its first domestically manufactured export-import (EXIM) shipping container for global shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the container at the Maersk-CONCOR Inland Container Depot in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. This achievement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's encouragement to A.P. Moller-Maersk in February 2025 to support container manufacturing in India. In a strong vote of confidence, A.P. Moller-Maersk also placed an order for 1,000 additional India-manufactured containers with DCM Shriram Group, marking the beginning of a long-term commercial partnership. The initiative is supported by the Indian government's \u20b910,000 crore Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS) announced in the Union Budget 2026, aiming to boost annual manufacturing capacity to 7.5 lakh TEUs and reduce reliance on imported containers. This development is expected to strengthen India's position in the global maritime value chain, create employment, and enhance supply chain resilience.
